Fellowship

Just finished another book; albeit a reread - Fellowship of the Rings. (If you need me to include a link for this one, you can just stop reading now.) Almost finished it this morning at the gym, and didn't want to take it tomorrow morning - I hate finishing up halfway through a session on the bike or elliptical trainer and having nothing to do for the rest of the time. Anyway, I was trying to remember the last time I read these - I think it was shortly after the movies came out. Funny that my main reactions to them are still in what way they differed from the films - whose lines were used somewhere else, etc. I keep reflecting that those movies were done SO WELL. Can't imagine any way that they could have been done better. The few changes that there were worked very well in the film format, and the little switching around of lines also flowed. On to Two Towers tomorrow morning...

I AM counting this one -

Book 11

You should count this one-rereads count! I think every avid reader has their favorites they pull off the shelf every year or so (or in my case, if I find a book I like that much, I just start right over again as soon as I finish!). I also thought Peter Jackson did a fantastic job keeping the movies true to the books. :)

Yeah, Mich reads these once a year (which is why she beats me handily at Tolkien Trivia when we play.) Me, not so often, but I do like to come back to them from time to time. PJ did a great job of keeping true to the SPIRIT of the books. And in the end, that's what was the most important - the whole feel. You could tell he really cared.

Which movie was your favorite? Mine is the first one, the Fellowship of the Ring because it starts out so happy and pure and beautiful- I love all the little hobbit details, like the round green door, and the frowny old hobbit. It makes them seem so real.

I can't really separate the movies in my head; they're all part of the whole. I guess I've watched Fellowship more than the others, because it came out first and it's the "lightest". I really need to watch the other two again, actually. Maybe we need to have a day-long movie-watching theme party...

Hey, if you're having a Lord of the Rings party, I'm there.

Wearing elf ears? 'Cause that would be cool... Well, OK, not "cool", but you know...

Yeah, I know, Dorkdorkdorkdork... Although Liv did say that she loved her elf ears, and that everyone should wear them all the time. But they are just made out of glucose, and would melt off in the rain... Maybe we should all wear elf ears to work one day, and freak out all our patrons! Wouldn't that be fun? Laughing over here!
